Baby Caleb

When I first met with Jenny and Adrian for their maternity session, I knew their little baby-to-be was in amazing hands. I could tell how deeply they love each other just off of how they look at each other.  I do really love being in the presence of people like this. It definitely makes my job so much easier. I know its not everyones favourite, being in front of a camera, but the more natural you can be with one another, the more truth shines through in the photos.

So needless to say, I was looking forward to seeing them again, and meeting their little boy Caleb.  Such a sweet little guy. Big eyes, and that fresh baby smell that gives any mama instant baby fever.  I can say that these two parents are so completely in love with him. The way they gazed was incredible. I really love being present  in these moments, and love even more capturing them for these families.  He slept for most of the session, only fussed a touch when he needed his mommy, but was instantly soothed and stayed pretty happy the rest of the time. HIs wide eyes made connections with everyone around him, and even spent some time looking straight in to my lens.

Here are a few more from our day.

family love

I've been photographing this family for a couple years now, and have loved watching them grow. Recently I had the pleasure of meeting a special little guy, their newest addition Reid.  When I found out they were expecting their 2nd baby I actually started tearing up. We were about to start a shoot at the end of last summer, and Lisa told me she was pregnant. I was instantly so excited and happy for them. Lauren, their first born, had just turned one a month previous and she was conceived by IVF. Having her was an amazing gift in itself. I know Lisa was so excited about finally having her first baby, so naturally when I heard she was pregnant again I was over the moon happy for them, however what I soon found out as our conversation continued was that it was 100% natural conception this time. I'm not too familiar with the process, I can only imagine how tough it may be. Such an emotional roller coaster that can be trying, and hard to anticipate.  In my opinion, it takes a strong couple to go through that. Fast forward 40 weeks later, and here is Baby Reid. A little replica of his older sister, but definitely all boy.

It has been so special to me to be able to see them grow and take their photos. This little family is incredible and so full of love. These two have such an amazing childhood ahead of them with two very dedicated parents.

Doing newborn sessions in your home is important to me. I love the extra special feeling that it gives the photos. First of all, you're most comfortable in your own home. Secondly, with a newborn, sometimes they need to be removed from the moment with just mom or dad to be calmed or nursed, and this way you're in your own space. And thirdly, this is you, your family, your life, your story. Thats what I'm trying to capture, these moments. The first few weeks, as any new mother can attest to, you can spend hours just staring at your new baby. Its these times, when you're memorizing every single detail of your baby, that I love to be there for.

Sibling love

Not too many things are sweeter than a newborn. One thing that's pretty close is a proud big sister that loves her baby brother soooooo much. Growing up with three brothers myself, I can still remember when my two younger brothers were brought home. I also still remember my youngest brother had dark hair, and I said to my mom " I don't think I'll like him, I don't like people with dark hair" (insert laughing with tears emoticon) OBVIOUSLY that wasn't true, and I adore my brothers.

I was so happy and excited to meet Lawson. The ever so sweet little baby of my friend Deirdre.  Already having a three year old, they were more than ready for this new little guy to join their family. I loved doing their maternity photos, this family is seriously gorgeous, so naturally I couldn't wait to see this little guy and snap some photos.

Deirdre had been given a newborn photo package from some family at her baby shower, but the session was just for herself, hubby and Lawson, so I was excited to go over and capture a few of Leila with her new brother. It was fun seeing them interact with each other, the way Leila gazed at him was so heart warming. She definitely loves her new brother. I know that it can be quite the transition for the older child. Suddenly theres a new baby, taking all of moms time away from you. It can either be that they don't want anything to do with the baby, or that they just love them like they've always been a part of their lives. She was very happy to help out and be a little mini mommy.

These little faces were so sweet. Here's a few of my favourites from this session.
