Expecting mama's

Spoiler alert! Turns out I love doing maternity sessions, not that I'm surprised by this, but I truly love it. I love creating these beautiful images that mark such an amazing occasion.  I love looking at photos to get inspiration, and I love seeing a vision of mine come to reality. I seem to be getting more expecting mama's these days too, which makes me SO HAPPY!

I know I've said it before, but as uncomfortable and big as you may feel, this is such a unique experience. Every women feels different and has a different journey, but the end result is this amazing little baby created with such love, hopes and dreams. I get really into these sessions, trying to help these mamas feel as beautiful as they appear. I know it isn't easy to get in front of a camera on your best day, but I feel the value of having these photos to look back on is so worth it. The way our bodies go back to our pre-baby figures, its hard to forget how you felt & looked in this moment.

Some of my favourite photos I've shot to this date are maternity ones. Whether its a family affair, a couple expecting their first, or an intimate one on one, everyone of these woman are stunning and beautiful from the inside out, and I just love taking these photos. I can see how much they love their little baby before he/she is even here. I am always honoured when I am hired to do these sessions. As it is such an important time, next to a wedding, in my opinion. I look at each of these woman and try my best to relate, to help them feel beautiful in their skin and to create beautiful images they'll be able to look back on one day when their baby is not a baby anymore.

Recently I was able to photograph two very special mama's. Both having their 2nd child. Both having daughters that were a part of this session. I loved working with them, and am looking so forward to meeting one of the little guys and doing his newborn shots this weekend.

Here's a few from my latest sessions that I loved. Tender moments, filled with love, sweet little girls and proud, glowing mama's

New Year, New goals

Happy New Year! Its already 11 days in to 2016, still hard to believe the holidays are all over. We had a really quiet holiday as it was just my boys, my parents and I, but still really nice. The hustle and bustle that come along with them can be easily overwhelming. I know in past years I've been stressed beyond belief. Trying to make sure everything is just "perfect" but this year was nice, just easy and busy with hockey. New years rolled along and we also had a quiet night, dinner out and then board games ( and a couple glasses of wine) with my little men. We did the countdown and then called it a night.

Reflecting back on 2015, I'm quite impressed with everything that happened. There were lots of high moments, as well as lots of low ones, but overall I can say it was a success! I have new goals to achieve and I plan on making them happen. I'm really excited about the thought of creating a studio space over the year. I want to branch out more, and grow more as an artist. Having a studio at home, will let me offer even more to my clients. I'm hoping to be able to set up for our colder months here in Calgary, and be able to provide mini sessions as well, as I get asked all the time if I do those. I do plan on having a Valentine's mini shoot, so stay tuned for that!

Over the holidays I was able to get out a couple times with my boys and do some photos. I let them explore and do their thing, and I follow them around with my camera.

Taking time to get out with these two makes me so happy. The chances are a lot less these days, but when we do I'm glad they're willing participants! I guess growing up with a camera in your face just makes it normal for them! I'm hoping when they're older they'll appreciate all these photos I've captured of their childhood.

From me to you, Happy New Year to you all! Wishing you all a year full of love, joy and great health.

full circle

I have been fortunate to have had the chance to shoot 4 beautiful mama's before and after their babies were born. I love both styles of sessions, the glow that a pregnant woman exudes, the love and hope in her eyes. I know I've said it before, but the way a woman's body transforms is incredible, If I were a guy, I'd be jealous of it... Then theres the newborn sessions, so pure and untouched by this world. To do both of these for the same family is quite exciting for me. To see this life come full circle and to be able to capture all these emotions is amazing to me. To be welcomed in to their lives for such an emotionally life changing event and to be trusted with capturing these moments in time for them is a feeling I can't describe.

Heres some from my most recent maternity and newborn session. Katy contacted me after stumbling across my instagram feed. (have I mentioned how much I love social media for this reason?!) We had scheduled the maternity photos at the end of october, with Katy being almost 35 weeks pregnant we figured we'd be doing the newborn sessions sometime mid december. However, a few days after our first session Katy went in to labour and gave birth to sweet little Oscar. He was pretty small, but such a strong and healthy little guy, He was just ready to be in our world. This little family is so sweet and filled with so much love. Big brother Max is just the cutest, full of kisses for his baby brother. Very thankful and grateful to have been trusted with such an important time in their lives. I do take these moments very seriously and am so passionate about creating these images for you to look back on and cherish.
